HKU Astronomy and Space Science Workshop
Fosters Exchange and Collaboration between
Scientists of Mainland China and Hong Kong

Since China and other countries are actively developing new major astronomical observing facilities and space missions to explore the Solar System and the Universe, it would be timely to promote scientific collaboration and academic exchanges between scientists working in Mainland and Hong Kong in the subject of astronomy and space science.  In order to achieve this goal, HKU Faculty of Science is co-organizing the Astronomy and Space Science Workshop with Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre and the National Astronomical Observatory of China from December 4 to 6, 2012 at HKU, with Professors Zhao Gang (Researcher of National Astronomical Observatory of China) and Sun Kwok (HKU Dean of Science and Chair Professor of Physics) serving as Co-Chairs of the Scientific Organizing Committee.

Twenty-three scientists in the disciplines of astronomy and space science are attending the Workshop, including members from National Astronomical Observatories and National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as academia from the universities of both Mainland and Hong Kong. Participation of this workshop is by invitation only and each participant is encouraged to present a paper.

Press members are cordially invited to meet the participating scientists for their conclusion on the development of the area on the last day of their meeting.  Professors Zhao Gang and Sun Kwok will talk about the large-scale collaboration between Mainland and Hong Kong in the future.
